The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has urged Enugu State Government to provide farmers with modern farming tools, to make agriculture attractive for youths in the state.
They also appealed to the government to create more industries to reduce the rate of unemployment among the youths in the state.
The Director, Agricultural Directorate,NYCN, Mr. Kenneth Eze
stated this recently in Enugu.
Eze noted that industrialisation was the only way the rate of unemployment of the teeming youths in Enugu State can be curbed down to the minimal level.
He stressed that youths cannot be interested in farming if was still operate on the traditional method of farming.
According to him, the youths can only be engaged meaningfully if we embrace a mechanized system of farming.
“The cassava farming is the primary vocation in Enugu State but sadly, the entire processing of cassava to garri is still in the ancient way.
“Our people (especially Farmers) will have new lease and quality of living if the State Government can inspire Agricultural Revolution and Transformation,”.
Eze who is also the President, Enugu State Young Farmers Association (ENSYFA) added that the agricultural revolution and transformation would help to promote food security and prosperity in the State and nation.
“A Senator; a member of House of Representatives or House of Assembly not only a Governor can engage youths into agriculture, noting It is time to demand more of leadership,” he said.
