Ensure a healthy environment, adhere to the Abia State Basic Environmental Law, ABSG tasks Abians

The Senior Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Environment, Professor Ijeoma Iheukwumere, has buttressed the need for the citizens, visitors and residents to adhere to the Abia State Basic Environmental Law to ensure a healthy environment.

She therefore enjoined some youths who play street football during the hours mapped out for the monthly environmental sanitation exercise to turn a new leaf and always join in cleaning up their surroundings environment.

Alex Otti on Environment, Professor Ijeoma Iheukwumere who moved round Umuahia and environs to see level of citizens/residents’ compliance with the monthly sanitation, charged parents and guardians to call their children, wards to order in that regard.

The Senior Special Adviser to Governor warned that government would henceforth arrest and prosecute residents who indulge in street football during hours of the environmental sanitation exercise.

Speaking also, the House Committee Chairman for Environment and Urban Renewal, and Member Representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Chief Kalu Mba Nwoke, encouraged security personnel to partner the Ministry of Environment to ensure smooth flow of the exercise in the state.

The Abia State House Member also decried personnel who embarks on commercial tricycle operation, thereby aiding defaulting public during the period of the exercise .

The House Committee Chairman on Environment, pleaded with the Abia State Commissioner of Police to charge his officers and men to respect the three hours, monthly mapped out for the exercise in Abia State.

He also reinstated the need for business owners and bereaved families, conveying corpses from the morgue to wait for the environmental sanitation exercise period to elapse before embarking on their journey.
