D’Tigress players get N1m each from Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has showered cash gift of N1 million each on players of the victorious D’Tigress, the nation’s female basketball team.

The team won the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Mali and qualified for the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain.

The President also gave the team’s officials N500, 000 each during a reception hosted by the President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.

He directed the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, to ensure the money is released to the players and the officials immediately, while also assuring the team of the support of the Federal Government for them to excel against other top contenders in Spain.

Speaking at the reception, the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Solomon Dalung, said the victory of the team is attributable to the silent reforms going on in the ministry. He added that his ministry was determined to take sports to glorious heights in the country.

“This has started paying off,” he said.

The minister also attributed the success of the team to the new leadership in the federation who are determined to bring success to the game on the country.
