Dr. Chukwu extols Governor Otti’s agricultural initiatives in Abia

Dr. Oluebube Chukwu has commended Governor Alex Otti’s Agricultural Initiatives introduced in the State describing it as strategic approach to tackling hunger in the state.

Chukwu who made the commendation while fielding questions from newsmen that borders on the recent release from United Nations Hunger Index ranking one of the Countries with significant challenges in providing sufficient food for its populace, informed that Governor Alex Otti has introduced a series of groundbreaking agricultural initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable food availability and combating hunger.

The Due Process Chief, had highlighted On the occasion of the World Food Day 2024, with the theme “Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future,”that food is essential to the survival and development of human society, adding that the Governor Otti grabbed the bull by the horns in addressing hunger.

He said that one of Dr. Alex Otti’s key initiatives was the provision of farm incentives to local farmers, along with sending groups of Abia farmers for specialized training at the CSSM Farms in Nasarawa State.

The Governor further supported farmers with grants ranging from N1 million to N3 million, allowing them to invest in their farms, while preparing to send another batch of farmers for training at the same institute.

The SSA to the Governor on Due Process also stated that in pursuit of food security, Governor Otti is set to revitalize farm settlements, estates, and plantations, such as the Ulonna North and South settlements, rubber plantations, and palm oil plantations.

According to him, this administration has also established partnerships with agricultural research institutions to boost food production and make food more affordable for Abia communities.

“The governor has invested heavily in the state’s infrastructure by building and rehabilitating urban and rural roads to facilitate the smooth transportation of agricultural products from rural areas to urban centers.”

Dr. Oluebube Chukwu noted that these efforts are crucial steps toward not only addressing hunger but also transforming Abia into a model of agricultural innovation in Nigeria.

He further expressed optimism that Governor Otti’s agricultural initiatives will pave the way for long-term food security, enhancing the livelihoods of farmers and reducing poverty in Abia State. Emphasizing the importance of consistency and collaboration in achieving these goals, urging farmers to take full advantage of the opportunities being provided.

“These investments in our agricultural sector, along with the technical training and financial support for our farmers, are critical steps toward ensuring food security for all. Governor Otti has set the foundation, but it is up to us to build on it by maximizing these resources and partnerships,” Dr. Chukwu remarked.

He also pointed out that the agricultural revival under Governor Otti’s leadership is not just about producing more food but about creating sustainable agricultural practices that will benefit generations to come adding that fostering innovation and ensuring that Abia’s agricultural sector is competitive and resilient, the administration is aiming for a future where hunger becomes a thing of the past.
