Covered Number Plates: Abia Govt Issues Stern Warning To Non-Compliant Drivers

 

The Abia State Government has issued a stern warning to motorists driving without proper vehiclar identification as well as those using covered plate numbers to desist or face dire consequences.

 

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu gave the warning on Monday while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu who emphasized that driving without proper identification poses serious security risks, noted that the state government’s initiative to curb unverified drivers is a crucial step towards enhancing security measures within the state.

 

He pointed out that individuals who fail to comply with the directive would be made to face the full weight of the law.

“For the upteenth time, the state government has warned those who drive without plate numbers or with covered plate numbers to desist from such untoward behaviour or where they continue, they’ll be doing so at their own risk.

Driving without proper plate numbers have grievous security implications and those who would breach that instruction would be doing so at their own risk.

 

Of course you know that with the heightened security situation we have now in the country, or would not be nice for anybody to be caught driving without proper plate numbers”, Prince Kanu stated.

 

He therefore advised Abians to comply with the state government’s directive inorder to enhance the overall security of lives and property in the state.

 

 

The Commissioner while noting that the present administration is committed to enhancing infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents, said the Ariaria and Ubakala water projects are scheduled to commence in September, this year.

 

Prince Kanu said that the Light Up Abia initiative of the state government has continued to make significant strides, with 50 transformers set to be distributed in the current quarter to various communities across the state.

He disclosed that the rural electrification initiative of the state government is set to be executed in the three senatorial zones of the state.

 

 

It is appropriate to note that over 2,500 solar powered light had been installed across the state, majorly between Umuahia, Aba and Ohafia and such isolated institutions like Abia state University and some government and public buildings in the state.

 

 

The state government is committed to ensuring that that programme is executed in all the nooks and crannies of Abia state“, Prince Kanu assured.

 

Contributing, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday explained that the water project which is financed by some partners of Abia state government is targeted at revamping two water schemes.

These water scheme is to revamp the water scheme and reticulate the 320 homes each. So, you are talking about 640 homes. It’s completely our partners financing it.
“They have been going through the procurement process of hiring the contractors that will execute it”, Engr. Monday explained.
