Chelsea will have their hands full in the quarter-finals of this season’s EFL Cup as they have been pitched against in-form Newcastle United, who thrashed Manchester United 3-0 tonight to reach the last eight.
Recall that it was the same Newcastle United that eliminated last season’s treble winners Manchester City in the penultimate round.
In other quarter-final pairings, Everton, who eliminated Burnley 3-0 will tread tackles with Fulham, who defeated Ipswich 1-3.
Port Vale, who eliminated Mansfield will lurk horns with Middlesbrough, who came from behind to defeat Exeter 2-3.
Liverpool will face fellow Premier League side West Ham in the quarter-finals. Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez scored as Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 2-1 while West Ham hammered Arsenal 3-1 to book a place in the last eight.
The quarter-final matches will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
