The Abia State Government has unveiled series of events to mark Governor Alex Otti’s first year in office.
Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, detailed the planned activities while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Otti.
Prince Kanu said there are no plans by the state government to celebrate the Governor’s one year anniversary and added that the event would be a period of retrospect for the government.
“We will use a few events to mark the period”, Prince Kanu noted.
According to him, the Governor will hold Town Hall Meetings in each of the three Senatorial Zones of the stage with Abia North scheduled for Thursday this week at the Ohafia Local Government Headquarters, the Abia Central meeting will take place in Umuahia on Friday, while the Abia South meeting is set for the Aba Recreation Club next Tuesday.
He said the Governor’s wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, will visit destitute homes in the state on Saturday, adding that the event will also include a Thanksgiving Service at the International Conference Center Umuahia, on Sunday with an anniversary Executive Council meeting on Monday, followed by a statewide broadcast on Wednesday, May 29th.
“His Excellency in his desire to thrill down governance in the state will engage in town hall meetings across the three Senatorial zones of the state. The first of those town hall meetings will commence on thursday 23rd of May in Abia North.
“What has happened is that we’ll try to match up the local governments together, all the local governments in Abia North will come together and the Governor will interact with the people, the ordinary people to feel their pulse and get a feedback from them, what they’ve experienced this past twelve months. The venue would be the pavilion at Ohafia
“On Friday the 24th of May, the Town hall meeting would hold here in Umuahia, that would be the turn of Abia central sensorial zone.
“On Saturday the 26th of May, her Excellency, Mrs Priscilia Otti will pay visits to destitute homes and vulnerable people.
“On Sunday the 26th of May, there will be a Thanksgiving service here in Umuahia, for us to thank God and show gratitude to God for what He has done for Abia people in this one year by installing Dr Alex Otti as the Governor of Abia State.
“On the 27th of May, that’s Monday, there’ll be an anniversary Exco. Then on 28th of May, Tuesday, that ‘ll be the turn of Abia South to have their own town hall meeting, that will hold at the recreation hall in Aba.
“On 29th, there will be a state broadcast by his Excellency, he’ll address Abians and maybe later that day, it will be rounded up with a banquet”, the Commissioner said.
He described Governor Otti’s one year in Office as impactful adding that the Governor has through his quality leadership, redefined governance.
“You will agree with me it’s been a one year of impactful leadership. A one year during which his Excellency and his team have redefined governance. Which ever was you look at it in Abia state, we may not be where we want to be but definitely, we are no longer where we used to be.
“The old narrative about Abia state about being underdeveloped, lagging behind amongst comity of states and so on has changed dramatically within this period”, Prince Kanu stated.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzo Nwachukwu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma were present during the briefing.
