Govt Moves To End Boundary Crisis In Abia

Abia  State Deputy Governor, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu has underscored the need for the State Boundary Committee to resolve all the internal boundary issues across the state .

Engr Emetu who stated this during a meeting with members of the State Boundary Committee in his office at Government House Umuahia, noted that this will help resolve other boundary crisis between the state and other neighboring states by the National Boundary Commission.(NBC).

The Deputy Governor who is also the Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, expressed disappointment at the inability of past administrations to resolve some of these boundary issues, especially the one between Ukwa East LGA and Etim Ekpa LGA in Akwa Ibom state.

He mandated the Field Surveyor to provide the field measurements to the State Boundary Committee to enable them conclude on their findings, pending the visitation of the National Boundary Commission ( NBC).

 

In his speech, the State Consultant on Boundary Matters, Surveyor Christopher Nwanevu,while giving an update on the outcome of the demarcation of the Internal Boundaries of Ndi- Idima Abam and Ndi- Ememe Abam, as well as Ndi- Ebe and Ndi- Ojiaku communities in Abam , Arochukwu Local Government Area,stressed the urgent need to complete the demarcation of Umuaku in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State and Ezioba in Orumba LGA of Anambra state.

He also pleaded with the State Government to stop
Individuals,as well as,communities from encroaching into the premises of schools handed back to the Church .

In his report, the Commissioner for Police, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie who gave full investigative situation reports of Isu in Arochukwu LGA and Ukwa in Odukpani LGA of Cross River State,disclosed that security personnel have been dispatched to the area to forestall further crisis.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Chidinma Nwogu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Land and Housing,
Mr. Ukeje Ukpabi, the Commissioner for Police on Operation, DCP Chris Okoro, State Director of DSS, Members of the State Boundary Committee among others were present during the meeting.
