Abia Governor commissions 3 projects in ABSU

Abia Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has performed the ground breaking ceremony of Abia State University Guest House,Uturu.
He also commissioned a 300 Bed Capacity Students’ Hostel, Students’ Union Secretariate and Material Labouratory Centre of the Faculty of Environmental Studies.
Speaking at different venues of the events, the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu commended the leadership of the institution for its commitment to excellence.
He said that universities are anchores for development of their immediate environment, maintaining that the importance of the guests house for an institution like ABSU cannot be over-emphasized.
The Governor said that the Students’ Union Secretariate sponsored by him was built through direct labour by the school and stressed that he built to create a conducive learning environment for the SUG leadership to discharge their duties and relate well with the school management.
He further said that the State Ministry of Works and other government agencies that handle buildings and environmental designs would make use of the Material Labouratory Centre of the ABSU, describing it as befitting.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, ABSU, Prof. Uche Ikonne appreciated the various assistance the institution receives from the Governor and thanked the Governor for fulfilling his promise of building a secretariate for the SUG.
Prof. Ikonne explained that the difficulties the institution encounters in lodging their guests and need to have staff quarters neccessitated the commencement  of the building.
He equally informed that the Material Laboratory was sponsored by Needs Assessment Intervention while the hostel was sponsored by the TETFUND.
Also speaking, the SUG President , Comrade Chukwunyere Onyenso thanked the Governor for assisting the SUG in getting her own secretariate and appreciated the Governor for making himself available to teach free of charge in ABSU.
