Abia Diaspora Commission, Hope Aglow Foundation Forge Partnership on Development, Investment

 

The Abia State Diaspora Commission (ADCOM) and Hope Aglow Charity Foundation have pledged to collaborate on initiatives aimed at advancing development, social welfare and investment opportunities in the state.

The partnership was sealed during a meeting on Tuesday, between officials of the Commission and a delegation of the Foundation led by its Director, Prof. Cynthia Amaka Obiora, at Government House, Umuahia.

 

Speaking during the meeting, the CEO/ Executive Secretary of ADCOM, Rev. Dr Annie Onu, said the administration of Governor Alex Otti remained committed to inclusive governance and partnerships that improve the welfare of citizens.

Rev Onu stated that the people of Abia had long desired purposeful leadership and noted that the present administration had altered the development trajectory of the state through infrastructural renewal, transparency and people-centred policies.

 

She noted that the state government welcomes collaborations with organisations and investors willing to contribute to economic growth and human development.

This is a government that stands for humanity, integrity, clarity and progression. His Excellency, Gov Alex Otti is a governor who feels the pain of his people and is committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.

 

“The governor believes in transparency, accountability, and equal opportunities for both men and women.

“In Abia State, our doors are open to genuine partnerships that will improve lives and strengthen our economy.

“We believe that together we can achieve greater things and build a future that generations yet unborn will be proud of”, the ADCOM boss added.

She applauded the Hope Aglow Charity Foundation for identifying with the state and supporting initiatives that promote social justice, human dignity and sustainable development.

In her remarks earlier, the Director, Hope Aglow Foundation, Prof. Cynthia Obiora said the organisation was committed to improving livelihoods, combating poverty and promoting programmes that enhance human wellbeing.

 

Prof. Obiora explained that the relationship between both parties began during the recently concluded 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) convened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where discussions on governance, development, and social impact opened the door for collaboration.

Prof. Obiora commended the Governor Otti led administration for improvements in infrastructure, environmental sanitation and governance, particularly in Aba, the State’s commercial nerve center.

“We drove through Aba without even realising we had entered the city because the environment has changed completely.

 

“This is a story we want to tell the world”, she said.

Prof Obiora used the occasion to formally invite the state government to her forthcoming professorial ceremony and book launch, where three books on leadership, gender-based violence, communication, health and safety would be unveiled.

According to her, one of the publications, “Shattered Innocence”, examines the experiences of young girls affected by abuse and social neglect.

Contributing, the Chairman of the foundation and Director at Heirs Energies Limited, Engr Mario Tario, said the ongoing reforms in Abia had encouraged many indigenes and stakeholders to reconnect with the state.

 

“Everybody wants to associate with what is good and support its growth. We believe this partnership will bring wonderful projects and opportunities to Abia State”, he said.

Also speaking, ADCOM Director of Finance, Mr Sabastine Onwuchekwa, expressed optimism that the collaboration would produce long term benefits for the people of AbIa State and the country at large.

 

“This partnership is only the beginning of greater things to come. We are confident that meaningful progress will emerge from this alliance”, he said.
