The Federal Government has opened fresh discussions with the People’s Republic of China to strengthen Nigeria’s road infrastructure and enhance the technical capacity of local engineers.
Minister of State for Works, Barrister Mohammed Goronyo, disclosed this during a meeting with a delegation from CGGC Global Plc in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, Goronyo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to adopting modern engineering solutions and globally accepted practices to improve road development nationwide.
He listed key areas proposed for partnership, including capacity-building programmes for Nigerian engineers in China, supply of modern road construction and maintenance equipment, and transfer of advanced technologies to boost sustainability and local application.
Responding, the Vice President of CGGC Global Plc, Mr. He Yongjun, restated the company’s interest in supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure drive but requested direct access to project opportunities. He expressed concerns about working strictly through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, which remains the government’s approved and transparent procurement channel.
The meeting was attended by senior Ministry officials, including the Director of Human Resource Management representing the Permanent Secretary, as well as directors and top personnel.
Also present was the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Dr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, alongside senior officials of the agency. The CGGC Global delegation comprised Mr. Song Yunwu, Security Director; Ms. Tian Yimeng, Director, Africa Marketing Department; Mr. Peng Changbing, Director, Project Management Department; and other senior executives.
