NDC Course 34: Participants Begin Geo-Strategic Study Tour in Abia State

Participants of Course 34 from the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, have arrived in Abia State for a week-long geo-strategic study tour with the theme: “Harnessing the Industrial and Economic Potentials of Abia State for National Security and Development in Nigeria.”

During a courtesy visit to the Umuahia North Local Government Area headquarters, the Mayor, Chief Smart Iheoma, welcomed the team and expressed appreciation for their visit. He noted that Abia State has recorded remarkable progress under the present administration.

Chief Iheoma highlighted several recent initiatives of the council, including the establishment of a poultry and maggot farm—projects he described as economically viable and capable of enhancing food production and generating employment. He commended the National Defence College for its role in promoting national development through strategic research and wished the participants a successful tour.

At the Abia State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, applauded the state government for its consistent support to security agencies. He emphasized that the police, working collaboratively with other security formations, have continued to maintain a peaceful and secure environment that fosters economic growth.

The team, led by Air Commodore Immanuel Nansoh, Director of National and Military Strategy at the NDC, and Major General I.O. Ukandu, explained that the geo-strategic study tour is an integral part of the college’s academic curriculum. It is aimed at exposing participants to real-life socio-economic and security issues across the country, while equipping them with the knowledge required for policy formulation and strategic leadership.

The visit also featured the exchange of souvenirs between the Course 34 delegation and their hosts. The team, accompanied by the Head of the Political Affairs Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Nnenna Chekwas, also visited key sites including the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, the National War Museum, and the Ojukwu Bunker in Umuahia.
