After wallowing in the murky waters of the lower divisions of the Nigerian Handball league, U & H Abia have qualified to contest in the National Handball Premiership next season after qualifying for the finals of the National Division 1 Handball Championship going on inside the indoor sports hall at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
In the thrilling semi-final encounter, the Abia side took on Team Suleja and the fiercely contested game entered extra time twice; But at the end of the hostilities, the Abia team qualified by a lone goal defeating their opponents 30-29.
In the other semi-final encounter, Air Force defeated Bayelsa to set up a mouth-watering final with the home side.
In the female category, Soof Handball Academy defeated Edo Dynamo 36-16 while Funad Academy crushed Girl Child Academy 30-20.
