Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has said that the public transportation system across the State and other parts of the country will be properly managed in terms of adequate testing of road worthiness of vehicles following the commissioning of State Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre.
Dr Otti who stated this while commissioning the Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre, Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA, described the State Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre as a facility that will not only improve the revenue base of the State but help in saving the lives of Abians.
The Governor represented by his Deputy, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu, said Govt embarked on the project to ensure that vehicles are not only road worthy to ply the road, but meet up with their promise of creating more job opportunities for the teeming youths.
He commended facilitators of the project, Temple SYC for partnering Govt to ensure the actualization of the project which has enabled Govt achieve it’s objective of ensuring human capacity development and safety of lives and property.
He equally appreciated the Commissioner for Transport for the great feat and urged his team to do more in repositioning the transport industry in the State.
In his address, the Commissioner for Transport, Comrade Sunny Onwuma said the project which is aimed at ensuring that vehicles that ply roads in the State and beyond are road worthy at all times, in addition to saving lives and property of citizens and maximising the investment of the stakeholders towards achieving a better driving culture and stressed the need for citizens to imbibe safety culture.
Also in his address, the Group Managing Director of Temple SYC, Prince Segun Obayendo represented by Mr Ezedum Obinwanne expressed delight that Abia, by adopting the computerized vehicle inspection service, has joined the league of 26 States that have shared commitment to reduce carnages on the roads to the barest minimum and disclosed that the Centre has the capacity to inspect 200 vehicles daily.
The commissioning which featured a test run of the Deputy Governor’s convoy vehicle and issuance of certificate of road worthiness.
