The wife of Abia Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti has demonstrated by teaching the importance of personal hygiene management to young girls of puberty stage in their day to day activities.
The Governor’s wife who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr. Betty Emeka Obasi, ex rays the health benefits of personal hygiene management to young girls in a special awareness programme organised by the Pachedi Health and Educational Initiative at the Girls Secondary School Abayi Umuocham, Aba Abia State.
Dr. Betty, expressed that personal hygiene is a practical method of maintaining cleanliness withing the environment and the body to avoid getting infection and other diseases.
The SSA on Special Duties, advised the young girls to at all times imbibe the culture of washing their hands regularly, brushing their mouth at least 2 times a day, change sanitary pads at 6 hours interval, keeping the nails clean, taking birth 2 times a day and avoiding premarital sex at all costs.
She also added that keeping the environment clean at all times will keep them healthy and away from diseases and commended Abia First Lady for finding time in her busy schedule to address the girls.
In her remarks, the Special Adviser to Abia Governor on Vulnerable Groups and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Ifeoma Thomas, encouraged the girls to be bold and beautiful in the pursuit of their dreams and aspirations adding that the administration of Governor Otti is here to create enabling environment for them to excel.
Also in an interaction with newsmen, the founder of Pachedi Health and Educational Initiative, Chinwe Azuogu, said that the event which features personal hygiene tips, distribution of sanitary pads is to inculcate the habits of personal hygiene and it’s benefits in the overall health of every woman and to encourage young girls to stay in school and gain the benefits of education.
She further revealed that the foundation is a non for profits organisation that is dedicated to addressing health and educational challenges faced by under privileged communities.
Meanwhile, among the schools that participated in the event are Umule Comprehensive Secondary School, Abia Model High School and Girls Secondary School Abayi Umuocham, it was a 12 year old Miss. Chinweugwu Favour of junior secondary school 2, Abayi Umuocham who got correctly a question posed by Dr. Betty Emeka Obasi and was awarded scholarship by the creative director Toskyme House of Fashion Mr. Ugomdi Ogbonna to finish her education.
