Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has urged Christians to sustain their prayers for the continuous unity and progress of Nigeria.
Speaking at St. Peters Presbyterian Church, Abiriba Street Umuahia during a special thanksgiving service in commemoration of the 59th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria,Governor Ikpeazu while urging the church to pray consistently for the progress of the state, said that his government relies solely on the support and prayers of the church.
Governor Ikpeazu who congratulated Nigeria for attaining 59 years of age said inspite of the challenges faced, the country has remained an indivisible entity.
Ikpeazu who prayed that God will put a stop to the senseless killings in parts of the country especially the North East said although today might not be perfect in the history of Nigeria, tomorrow will be greater.
In his sermon, the Moderator, St. Peters Presbyterian Church, Umuahia Parrish, Rev. (Dr.) Umah Onwunta charged Christians and entire Nigerians to imbibe the attitude of praising God at all times.
He said God desires that His people appreciate Him and that they do so through praise.
Speaking on the topic “Changing Our Stories Through The Power Of Praise” , the man of God discouraged people from murmuring and complaining about what they have not achieved but rather advised they praise God even in times of adversity.
He called on Nigerians to love their country and pray for her peace and prosperity, adding that no other people would fix Nigeria’s problem except Nigerians themselves and urged the leaders at all levels to lead well.
The special thanksgiving service which featured prayers for the nation and government of Abia State attracted the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, the Head of Service, Sir Onyii Wamah and other dignitaries.
