FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Defending Champions Eliminate Host

United States of America showed that their defending champion status is not a fluke when the eliminated one of the favorites and hosts of the ongoing FIFA Women World Cup, France 2-1 to progress to the semi-finals.

A goal in each half by Megan Rapinoe was enough to eliminate France, who got an 81st-minute consolatory goal through Renard header.

Rapinoe is the first player to score four straight goals for the USA at a Women’s World Cup. She’s also the first player to score two or more goals in successive knockout stage games in tournament history.
