Cristiano Ronaldo has ceased to be a Manchester United player with immediate effect following a controversial interview in which he disrespected Unied’s manager, Erik ten Hag and made uncomplimentary remarks about the club in general.
In a statement released by the club, United wished Ronaldo well for the future and added, “Everyone at Manchester United remained focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”
Ronaldo is currently at the World Cup in Qatar and is expected to captain Portugal in their Group H opener against the Black Stars of Ghana on Thursday.
Ronaldo has about seven months remaining on his £500,000-a-week contract with United and his departure leaves him free to put pen to paper for any club, including another Premier League club when the transfer window opens in January.
Three goals in 16 outings is Ronaldo’s record this season and he has not played for Manchester United since he captained the side in their 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
