NUJ Set To Hold Cultural/Veterans’ Day In Abia

 

The Maiden Edition of the Cultural and Veterans’ Day Celebration 2022, being organized by Abia State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), with the theme, “The role of the Media in preserving Igbo Culture: Saving Igbo language from extinction,” takes place by next week Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

 

A release jointly endorsed by the Chairman, NUJ, Abia State Council, Comrade Victor Ndukwe, the Secretary, Comrade Adaeze Ralph Igbokwe, and the Planning Committee Chairman, Comrade Chukwuma Emele, puts the venue at Mater Dei Cathedral Palm Garden, Azikiwe Road, Umuahia while time is 10 a.m.

According to the release, the occasion has the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, as the Chief Guest of Honour, the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, as Special Guest of Honour while the Traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom, Chief Uche Akwukwaegbu (BAWAS), will be the Chairman of the Day which will feature lecture presentation by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of Abia State University, Uturu, Prof. Ogbonna Onuoha, on the theme of the event.

The release names the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Eze Chikamnayo and his Arts, Culture and Tourism counterpart, Mr Tony Nwanmuo, Special Guests.

 

The release further lists other highlights of the event to include: Celebration of the National President of NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzo, on his election as the President of the Confederation of African Journalists (CAJ) and the recent conferment of National Honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), on him by President Muhammadu Buhari; Presentation of awards to Eze Chiabuotu Emelike, Rt. Hon. Ambassador Uche Ogbuagu, Lawrence Obewe Nwaubani (a.k.a Professor Obewe), the legendary Rev. Paulson Kalu; former Abia Council chairmen of NUJ, including Elder Ogbonnaya Iheaka, Sir Vincent Obike, Sir Ambrose Nwachukwu, Comrade Hyacinth Okoli and Comrade John Emejor, select veterans of the profession and showcasing of local delicacies associated with Ndigbo.

The event will be spiced with special performances by various cultural troupes led by the famous Abia Council of Arts and Culture of the Abia State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism.

The release invites all journalists, veterans, media professionals, friends of the media and the public to the event.
