My appointment as mayor of Bende lga A call to serve: Barrister Nwankwo

The newly inaugurated Transitional Chairman of Bende Local Government Area in Abia State, Barrister Chijioke Nwankwo, has promised to replicate the Governor Alex Otti’s developmental agenda of the state in his Bende Local Council.

Barrister Nwankwo, a legal practitioner with interest in financial management made the promise at the council headquarters immediately after he was sworn into office today along with 16 other mayors by Gov. Alex Otti to man the affairs of the local government areas in the state.

Addressing the staff of Bende council, the mayor said that the task ahead of them in the council is enormous and appeals that all hands must be on deck to surmount it.

According to him, ” the era of playing truancy, lateness to work and negligence to duties is over.

While we will do our best to improve the welfare packages of the workers in the council, every staff must show him or herself approved to be worthy of such remuneration by working hard into transforming the council to align with the vision of Governor Alex Otti” he said.
He thanked Governor Otti for appointed him, adding that his appointment as mayor of the council is a call to serve and not to be served.

Earlier during the inauguration the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti described the swearing in of the TC Chairmen and their Deputies as a strategic step towards meeting the developmental needs of the state, adding that it would further enable the government to harness the numerous opportunities that abound in Abia.

He said that he was delighted that the TC Chairmen and their deputies had accepted to serve the people of Abia with their extensive wealth of experience in various fields of human endeavours.

According to him, “while the state government would give each of you the freehand to manage the affairs of the council responsibly, it is very important to design your programmes in ways that align with the general development philosophy of the present labour party administration in the state” he said.
