Mayor Nwankwo Charges Community, Church Leaders To Participate in Polio Immunization Drive

Bende LGA Mayor, Barr Chijioke Nwankwo 

Ahead of the forthcoming polio eradication and immunization campaign schedule on March 2nd to 5th, 2024, the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Barr. Chijioke Nwankwo, has appealed to faith based organisations, traditional rulers and president generals of communities in his council to get involved in the dissemination of information that will encourage their wards to get vaccinated.

Mayor Nwankwo made the appeal in a meeting held with representatives of Bende primary healthcare department, the christian association of Nigeria (CAN) Bende chapter, world health organisations, national orientation agency and Bende royal fathers in his Bende council headquarters today.

According to him, ” the primary objective of the meeting is to intimate you on the dangers of polio and to develop a collaborative framework in maximizing community participation in the immunization drive within the local government.

He expressed that polio threat to children in this era of preventive medicine is a misnomer and attributed the backlash to limited awareness and access to proper information, hence the role of community engagement and collaboration in ensuring robust participation in the forthcoming campaign and vaccination.

In his remarks, the chairman, Bende council of traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Eze Okorie Uchendu said that the message was well received adding that they will do the needful by engaging town cryers for effective dissemination of information to achieve the needed results.

He praised the efforts of the mayor and his doggedness to place Bende in the front burner of Governor Otti ‘s led administration in Abia state.
