Abia-born businessman and Labour Party House of Representatives hopeful for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has been appointed by Governor Alex Otti as a member of the supervisory team for the construction of the Abia Specialist and Diagnostic Centre in Umunnato, Alayi, Bende Local Government Area.

The appointment, announced, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project yesterday (Thursday, May 28, 2026) underscores the confidence reposed in Dr. Anyaso’s leadership capacity, commitment to community development, and passion for quality healthcare delivery.
Governor Otti constituted a four-member committee to monitor and supervise the execution of the project, charging members to ensure that the contractor strictly adheres to specifications and delivers the hospital within one year.
Other members of the committee include the member representing Bende North State Constituency, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma; and the Deputy Mayor of Bende LGA, Lady Ifeoma Agu.
The Abia Specialist and Diagnostic Centre is designed as a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that will transform medical services in the area. The hospital will feature a 100-bed capacity, theatres, accident and emergency units, general outpatient departments, maternity wards, dental units, and radiology departments.
Speaking at the event, Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s resolve to rebuild critical infrastructure across the state, noting that the old Umunnato General Hospital had to be demolished to pave the way for a modern medical facility capable of meeting contemporary healthcare standards.
The Governor expressed optimism that the project would be completed and ready for commissioning during activities marking his administration’s fourth anniversary next year.
Dr. Anyaso’s inclusion in the supervisory committee has been widely viewed as a recognition of his dedication to the development of Bende and his consistent contributions toward improving the welfare of the people.
