Fubara Alleges Police Attempt To Sabotage Rivers LG Elections

Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara of Rivers State has fingered the Nigeria Police Force over attempts to scuttle October 5, 2024 Local Government Area (LGA) elections.

The Governor who revealed this during a press conference in Port Harcourt today, further disclosed that Nigerian Police officers allegedly invaded the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) in an attempt to seize sensitive materials, an act he says was meant to derail the smooth conduct of the elections in the state.

He also alleged that the police, under orders from an Abuja-based politician, tried to halt the process just hours before polls were scheduled to open.

Fubara further assured Rivers people that the election will hold as planned, adding that nothing will stop it.

He maintained that all legal, security, and logistical measures had been finalized and put in place.

Fubara insisted that the Inspector General of Police should be held responsible if there is any breakdown of law and order in the state.

He also accused Police of hypocrisy of the police, quering why they would meddle with a process the Supreme Court itself had ruled on. “Is there a court bigger than the Supreme Court?” he further asked.

Fubara assured Rivers people that the elections would proceed peacefully, with or without police involvement, and urged other security agencies to step in if necessary.
