Ezinne Benjamin-Kalu Receives Praise from Abia First Lady, Uwana, Lucky Johnson, Rufous-Obi

The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Management Board, Dr. Mrs. Ezinne Benjamin-Kalu, has pledged to deploy her experience and passion for service toward repositioning the hospital for improved healthcare delivery.

Dr. Mrs. Benjamin-Kalu made the pledge shortly after her swearing-in by Governor Alex Otti at the Michael Okpara Auditorium and during a reception held in her honour at the Britac Event Centre, Umuahia.

Expressing gratitude to Governor Otti for the confidence reposed in her and other newly inaugurated board members, the ABSUTH chairman said the appointments reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and improving institutional performance across the state.

She noted that the new board would work closely with management and relevant stakeholders to ensure quality service delivery and support the ongoing reform agenda of the present administration.

“I do not take this responsibility for granted. Being very passionate about contributing to the development of our state, I am sure this is the mindset of every member of the board inaugurated today,” Dr. Benjamin-Kalu said.

She stressed that the responsibility before the board is to help reposition the Abia State University Teaching Hospital into a more efficient, responsive and people-oriented institution capable of meeting the growing healthcare needs of the people.

Speaking at the reception, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Abia State, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwana, SAN, represented by Mr. Kelechi Nwiwe, SAN, described the appointment as a well-deserved call to greater service and responsibility.

He said Dr. Mrs. Benjamin-Kalu possesses the competence, discipline and character needed to provide strategic leadership at a time when the health sector faces enormous challenges.

Also speaking, Hon. Lucky Johnson, member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, said Dr. Mrs. Benjamin-Kalu’s professional exposure and knowledge of the medical field would usher in a new era in the sector.

A board member of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority, Mrs. Onyinye Rufous-Obi, also praised the choice of Dr. Benjamin-Kalu, describing Governor Otti as a leader who understands how to place capable hands in strategic positions.

In her remarks, the wife of the governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, congratulated the new chairman and urged her to bring her wealth of experience to bear in repositioning the teaching hospital to meet international standards and improve access to quality healthcare for residents of Abia State.
