The possibility of two English sides playing in the finals of this season’s Europa League got stronger tonight after Chelsea and Arsenal had a positive outing in their first leg of the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Arsenal, playing at the Emirate Stadium, came from behind to defeated Valencia 3-1. The visitors took the lead on the 11th minute when Mouctar Diakhaby headed Valencia in front.
Arsenal rallied round to restore parity seven minutes later through Alexandre Lacazette, who gave Arsenal the lead on the 25th minute, when he headed home Granit Xhaka’s cross.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored on the 90th minute to give the Gunners a two goal advandage ahead of next Thursday’s return leg in Spain.
Valencia must be pleased with that precious away goal, which could be very important.
In the second semi-finals, Chelsea visited Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. The home side took the lead on the 23rd minute through their top scorer Luka Jovic.
Pedro gave Chelsea an important lifeline when he found the back of the net just before half time.
The second leg in the Stamford Bridge will have all to play for.
