Amuro Ibere in Otuzo Autonomous Community celebrates 2024 new yam festival with funfair.

The Eze-elect of Otuzo Autonomous Community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Chidi Hyacinth Kalu emphasized the importance of communities maintaining peace in order to promote development.

Chief Kalu, gave the advice during the 2024 new yam festival celebration of Amuro Ibere village in Otuzo autonomous community.

He called for maintenance of peace in the community and advised his subjects to celebrate the new yam festival with funfair.

Speaking to journalists, Chief Kalu said the new yam festival is a cultural heritage, a period we thank God for bountiful harvest and invite friends and well wishers to celebrate with us.

According to him, “Last may, I was elected with a simple mandate, restoration of unity in our land, maintaining peace and to develop our communities with the help of sons and daughters of our communities, I am bold to inform you today that the foundation for that restoration has been laid”.

He maintained that the message is very direct and simple, Amuro Ibere has risen from slumber; jettisoning obnoxious and harmful traditional practices to entrench peace, unity and development of our community.

So as we celebrate and thank God for a bountiful harvest let us remind ourselves that peace and unity are very important factor for development to thrive in every community therefore I urge Amuro Ibere people to mark the 2024 new yam festival peacefully.

Also speaking, the traditional prime minister, Chief Sunday Adum, a cultural enthusiast, Architect Chibuzo Uzoagwa, stated that Amuro Ibere community is ready to partner any progressive mind to make the community a place to be.

“Today, we are witnessing a peaceful new yam celebration regardless of the economic challenges, we are committed to building a united and peaceful community” they said.

Meanwhile, the celebration features dance, cultural display and arts.
