Abia State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) state project monitoring Committee (SPMC) has been inaugurated with the charge to ensure effective monitoring of the agency’s projects to actualise realisation of agricultural policy of the state government.
The state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu gave the challenge during the inauguration of the committee held at Government House, Umuahia, said that the state government accord priority attention to agriculture as one of its cardinal pillars objective.
Ikpeazu, equally tasked them to ensure appropriate linkages across the sub sectors to avoid duplication and overlap as well address critical issues that hinders the implementation of projects.
He reminded them of the need to track performances progressively using approved indicator for each key result areas and achieving agreed performance targets and timeline of the state project are met.
Abia governor further enjoined the committee to ensure provision of accessible road network to facilitate the evaluation of farm products from farm settlements to the end users.
The governor represented by his Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu said the state government was making frantic efforts to put agriculture on the front burner to guarantee food security and efficiency in the state.
He promised the committee of every assistance in realising the objective of the committee assuring them of any needed assistance in this regard.
Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman of the committee and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Rev Ernest Onyeukwu assured that the committee would leave up to its expectation of ensuring that agricultural products reached to the people particularly in the rural areas.
