Abia Assembly Screens, Confirms ABSIEC Chairman, State Auditor General, Others; Passes Virement Bill into law

The Abia State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed the Chairman and some member nominees of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, sent to it by the Governor, Dr Alex Otti.

Announcing the development on the floor of the House, the Deputy Speaker and presiding officer for the day, Rt. Hon. Augustine Okezie named those confirmed to include the Chairman designate Professor George Chima and other members designate as Dr. Kelechi Okere, Joseph Uzoma Akara, Nkemdirim Kalu and Bertha Ehumadu.

According to the Presiding Speaker, the other two nominees including Ekele Queen Ahuchogu and Onyemauche Elekwe who were not present, would be screened when they present themselves.

The House also screened and confirmed the Governor’s nominee for the position of Auditor General of the state, Mrs Eke Ngozi Ogbonnaya – Ugwo.

The House also at plenary passed into law H.A.B.21: The Abia State 2024 Appropriation Virement Bill, 2024.

The bill seeks to vire the sum of One Hundred and Seventy-One Billion, Seventy-Four Million, Six Hundred and Sixty-Four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Five Naira (N171, 074,664, 965.00) only in the 2024 Abia State Budget Appropriation Law for the services of the Government of Abia State for the year ending 31st December 2024 and for other related purposes.
