Fubara Pledges Unity, Development as Emergency Rule Ends in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured citizens of a new era of peace, stability, and development following the lifting of the six-month emergency rule imposed on the state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, 2025.

In a statewide broadcast today, Governor Fubara described the past months as “enormously challenging,” but noted that Rivers State had emerged stronger and wiser from the political crisis. He said his decision to cooperate with the President and the National Assembly was guided by the conviction that “no sacrifice is too great to secure peace, stability, and progress.”

Fubara commended President Tinubu for his “fatherly disposition and decisive intervention” in brokering peace among himself, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, and the Rivers State House of Assembly. He added that all parties have now agreed to reconciliation in the collective interest of the state.

“The costliest peace is cheaper than the cheapest war,” the governor emphasized, urging political leaders and stakeholders to put aside their differences and work together.

Highlighting achievements of his administration in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, Fubara pledged to complete ongoing projects, revive the economy, and accelerate development. He also promised to work harmoniously with the State Assembly to recover lost ground.

The governor expressed deep gratitude to Rivers people for their patience during the emergency rule, while thanking religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, women, youths, and citizens at home and abroad for their support.

He further extended appreciation to President Tinubu, Minister Wike, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, and lawmakers at both national and state levels for their roles in restoring peace.

“Our diversity is our greatest asset, and our unity the strongest guarantee of our future,” Fubara declared. “We must rise above bitterness and division to secure a peaceful and prosperous Rivers State for all.”

The governor concluded by dedicating the renewed peace to God and calling on all Rivers people, irrespective of political or ethnic affiliation, to join hands in rebuilding the state.
