The people of Agbo in Emede Ibeku Community, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, have called on Abia State Government to assist them complement the basic infrastructural development which they have started in the area.
Speaking with National Ambassador, the Chairman of the village, Comrade Iheanacho Solomon Onumegbu,who made the call during their festive occasion known as Agbo-Day Celebration, disclosed that the major setback hindering development in the area is lack of access roads which according to him they had taken the first steps by creating some to attract development.
He said that the purpose of the Agbo-Day Celebration was to stage a platform where indigenes of the village both home and diaspora will convene to show gratitude to God for preserving them all through the year adding that this year’s celebration was the first of its kind since they took the mantle of leadership in the village.
Onumegbu stated that since they came on board in August this year, that they have restored relative peace and unity among the people which was scarce in the village reiterating that they had succeeded in creating some domestic access roads capable of attracting development in the area.
According to the community leader, Agbo has evolved from remote village it used to be into a semi-urban town hence it needs adequate security, pipe-borne water, steady power supply among other amenities.
He, therefore, called on Abia Government under the leadership of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to look towards their area as they are predominantly farmers to enable them convey their farm produce to the Ubani Ultra Modern Market in Umuahia which is very close to them.
Contributing, the National Chairman of African Action Congress and also the Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria, IPAC, Dr. Leonard Nzenwa, a native of Agbo Emede Ibeku, lauded the community leaders for their exploits especially in creating a platform for the home and diaspora indigenes to interface with each other towards developing the village.
Nzenwa who is also the Chairman of all registered political Parties in Nigeria, charged them to look inwards to do more for the people adding that there are lots to be done in the area.
Also speaking, the Village Head of Agbo, Chief Amannamefule Ufomadu, hailed Comrade Iheanacho Onumegbu and his executive for chatting a new course for the people of Agbo Emede Ibeku, pointing out that they had performed exceptionally in the area of creating good access roads that will engender rapid development in the village.
He appealed to the State Government to finish up the 1.6 kilometer Umueze-Agbo-Ubani Ultra Modern Market road adding that it would help give free flow access to the market for traders.
In their separate remarks, the Secretary General, Agbo-Emede Development Union, Mr. Samuel Ogbonna, and the Vice Chairman of Agbo Emede, Mr. Godwin Nwachukwu, said Agbo-Day celebration is a home coming event adding that this year’s event is unique and historic since they came on board.
Ogbonna further said what prompted their move to creating access roads in their village is hospitality stressing that they need quick development in the area.
They prayed God to grant their Chairman, Comrade Iheanacho Onumegbu more wisdom to pilot the affairs of the village.
The ceremony featured recognition of their illustrious sons and daughters who had contributed immensely to the development of the society and offer of special prayers to them, rededication of the village to God among others.
