Mixed Reactions Trail Rivers Crisis

The political crisis between the Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Chief E.N. Wike the Minister of FCT over an attempt to impeach the incumbent governor has thrilled reactions in Rivers State.

 

Recall that yesterday there was a battle in the state Assembly on an attempt to impeach Governor Fubara which the Governor foiled above all odds of shooting directly at the governor by the police, teargas, explosion at the State Assembly which ignited fire on the building.

Many well meaning Rivers people have questioned those involved to expose Fubara’s offences that warrants such hasty move for impeachment.

 

Many others call on the former Governor Wike and his men to give peace a chance and allow Fubara to come up with his own administrative agenda.

 

An elder statesman of Rumuorlumeni community in Rivers State Charles Wobo appealed to the president Ahmed Bola Tinubu to wade into the political crisis before it gets out of hand. The call followed the impeachment notice served to the governor of Rivers State by members of the state House of Assembly.

Mr. Wobo said the ongoing political commotion in the State is detrimental to the well being of it’s residence.

 

He said all Rivets State need is a government under a governor with unprecedented degree of sacrifice, self denial, love and care for the entire Rivers people.

 

He, however, advices Rivers people who do not have the interest of the State at heart to please exercise restraint and allow the governor to concentrate on the governance of the State.

 

A human rights activist George Nweke questioned the reason for the impeachment of the governor Similanaye Fubara.

 

He said the governor of Rivers State have not done anything that is visible, a man that is just five months into office and have been doing well.

He further asked if it is because he promoted civil servants or because he asked that the Shonghai Farm should be resuscitated that they are calling for his impeachment.

 

The human rights activist however said that the unfolding events is indicating the negative tendencies of the former governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike, and has brought to lime light what they have said about the intent of the former governor to install a puppet in the Rivers State Government House to do his bidding, but the recent happenings have shown that Rivers State can not be put under perpetual slave under one over bearing fellow. He said all the ramblings about impeachment or no impeachment is just a show of desperation of the former governor and his bench of men who are desperate to show loyal to their master.

Stating that it is also sad to know that the Rivers State Police Commissioner is also involved, in all these.

 

He therefore urged the IGP to call his men to order over alleged compromise.
