Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti has reassured that the present administration is determined to sustain and promote the peaceful coexistence currently enjoyed between Muslims and Christians.
Dr Otti who gave the assurance during the Jumat prayer marking the 32nd anniversary of the creation of Abia State held at the Central Mosque, Eket Street, Umuahia said Government will leave no stone unturned to ensure the protection of life and property of Abians and people resident is the State as they must live with the understanding of working in unity to develop the State.
The Governor represented by his Deputy, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu described the Special Jumat prayer as very strategic as it provides them with an opportunity to reflect on their roles and commitment to the development of the State, having passed through many challenging times in the State bordering on lots of infrastructural decay, maladministration, misplacement of priorities and blurred vision for a progressive tomorrow by previous administration.
He described Islam as a peaceful religion anchored on love for God and humanity and commended the Muslim community for showing exemplary commitment towards peaceful coexistence with their Christian brothers and sisters in the State as well as the continued support they have received from the Muslim community during and after the 2023 election.
The State Chief Executive further called on them to stand firm behind the present administration in its efforts to reposition the State and solicits their concerted prayers for the State to enable them enjoy a new era of economic, social, political infrastructural development in Abia as well as the spiritual upliftment of the people.
In his remarks earlier, the Chief Imam of Central Mosque, Eket Street, Umuahia Mallam Hussaini Idris said the Muslim Community will remain partners in progress with the present administration under the leadership of Dr Alex Otti in their resolve to change the developmental narratives of the State and disclosed that they have not relented in praying for the State and nation.
