2023: Abia North, Central To Produce Next Abia Governor

 

 

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP),in Abia State, has zoned the 2023 Governorship ticket to Abia North and Abia Central senatorial districts.

In a Press Release signed by the State Chairman of the PDP, Rt.Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere, the Party disclosed that after a wide range of consultation with Leaders and Stakeholders of the Party, which entailed the Party touring the whole 17 Local Government Areas of the State in a familiarization visit, as well as engaging in  meetings involving the State Working Committee of the Party and the entire Executive Committee, the Party resolved that the Governorship position for 2023 Elections would be zoned to Abia Central Senatorial District and Abia North Senatorial District.

The Release further stated that all those from the above mentioned zones who are aspiring for the Governorship position to liaise with the Party for onward presentation to the State Elders Committee between the 26th of March, 2022 to the 30th of March,2022.

The Party also showed appreciation to the Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, for the confidence he has shown in the party and urged him to continue to show exemplary leadership,so as to ensure the PDP flag bearer for the 2023 election emerges through a process guided by Party decisions.

Meanwhile, the Party also informed PDP faithful that the new membership cards are now available at the various Local Government Areas and are free courtesy of the Governor, adding that the old membership cards are no longer in use as they have expired.”Consequently, all Aspirants and those nominating them are hereby advised to obtain the new cards for use, as they fill out their nomination forms”.

The release further directed all Abia State Aspirants who collected their nomination forms from Abuja to return the forms through the State Secretariat for proper documentation and use during screening.

In an interview with the Press, the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Fabian Nwankwo, noted that the party adhered to the agitations of people and saw the need to zone the governoship to Abia North and Central Senatorial Districts, saying that it is of the best interest of the Party.

The Publicity Secretary stressed that the Party based their decision on the capacity to win elections and not on  personal interest.

Nwankwo further explained that the Party would major on candidates who can win elections as well as have the ability, personality and capacity to govern the state for the good interest of Ndi-Abia.

He, however, called on aspirants who collected their Nomination forms in Abuja to return it to the party secretariat in Umuahia for proper documentation.
