The Teranga Lions of Senegal finished top of Group B at the Africa Cup of Nations despite playing a goalless draw with Malawi.
Senegal launched several attacks with Liverpool forward Sadio Mane coming so close but Malawi’s goal keeper, Charles Thomu, who won Man of the Match Award denied the Senegalese several times.
The Flames of Malawi thought they had a spot-kick in the 74th minute when left-back Gomezgani Chirwa went down under the challenge of Bouna Sarr. But referee Blaise Yuven Ngwa reversed his decision after viewing replays.
Malawi finished third in the group table on four points, and jubilated at the end of the match as they hope to qualify for the round of 16 as one of the best third placed teams.
The Teranga Lions will face a third-placed side from Group A, C or D in the last 16 next Tuesday.
Senegal will have to work on their attack if they will go far in this tournament as they scored only one goal in the three group matches they played.
