All Ngwa Unity Cup:Aba South Lifts Trophy

 

The All Ngwa Unity Cup Came to an end recently with Aba South lifting up the trophy after defeating Obingwa Local Government Area in a 1:0 win.

The Ngwa Unity Cup Competition which kick started on the 23rd of October 2021 featured the 112 communities in Ngwaland slugging it out in the first ever All Ngwa Unity Cup tournament.

The idea of the competition was to bring all the seven Local Government Areas in Ngwa land together.

As an annual event which is part of the critical thrust of the Victor Chinedu Egbulefu Foundation, is geared towards the unity of Ngwa land,as well as youth development and social investment.

Recall that the flagging off ceremony took place at the Boys Technical College (BTC), Osusu in Aba North Local Government Area,with a road show and various displays, alerting residents of the good that has come to Ngwa Land.

Youths from the various Local Government Areas that made up Ngwa land, were seen jubilating over the unifying football tournament, sponsored by their own, Dr Victor Chinedu Egbulefu.

Football lovers, Coaches, Men and women of Goodwill, were all in attendance to witness the maiden edition of the Ngwa Unity Cup,with the opening match between Osusu and Eziama.

No doubt this thrust among other things would help breed more talents in the sports industry, as well as afford the youths the opportunity to showcase their football talents and also be discovered.

Interacting with Journalists, the founder of the VCE Foundation and Sponsor of the Football Competition, Dr Victor Chinedu Egbulefu, who is also a U.S based Pharmacist and Philanthropist, said he decided to dive into Sports because that is the only game that brings people together.

According to him, Sports is simple and fun and has the ability to unite different tribes and races together.

“My biggest motivation why i started this tournament was basically to bring excitement and fun in Ngwa land during Christmas.Thereafter, it grew to what you are seeing today.The tournament has been able to raise a group of football talents.

“This is the first of its kind.Going forward,it will be a yearly activity to bring Ngwa together”.

According to Dr Egbulefu the tournament has raised crop of talented players, adding that opportunities would be created for them.

“In future,we will be able to showcase these talents whether in Nigeria or outside the country and we will endeavour to explore other avenues”.

When asked whether if his kind gesture has any political undertone, Dr Egbulefu emphatically stated that it has nothing to do with politics but added that he did whatever he did for the love of Ngwa land.In his words,”Ala Ngwa made me what i am today. Everything am doing is to uplift where has given me life and hope”

“Am only giving back to my society. You can see the excitement this has brought”,he added.

He urged people to emulate the act of giving back to the society, particularly the one that has contributed to your growth.

Narrating some of the challenges encountered during the tournament, he stated that getting the youth to play was their biggest challenge,as they were doubtful of the organisers, if they can meet up with their obligations.He also added that lack of support from the various Local Government Chairmen,as well as traditional rulers stood as a bottleneck,but expressed joy the tournament came to an end successfully.

However, Dr Egbulefu, revealed that the foundation has the Medical, Education and Sports thrust, through which he has contributed and given back to the society.

He noted that Abians should expect more free health outreaches from his foundation,as well as free routine drugs distribution for pregnant women,free cadio surgery, more scholarship schemes among others.

In an interview, the Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee for the 2021/2022 All Ngwa Unity Cup Competition, Pastor Obioma Ubani, said the tournament has done so much good to the youths of Ngwa land, as they were actively engaged throughout the yuletide season, making them have lesser time for frivolous activities.

“These period, crime reduced drastically because youths were taken off the streets”.

Also, one of the organizers of the tournament,Palace Obialor thanked God for seeing them through the tournament, commending the sponsor for his contributions in bringing Ngwa land together through sports.

The Final match for the competition was played between Obingwa and Aba South Local Government Areas at the Ngwa High School, with the Local Government Area of the Sponsor, Aba South, slugging it out with the team from Obingwa in a 1:0 win, making Aba South to be the first winner of the All Ngwa Unity Cup Competition.While Aba North team defeated Ugwunnagbo in 2:0 win at the 3rd place match.

Interacting with some of the players, the captain of Obingwa, Miracle Godwin and the Goalkeeper of Aba South,Ifeanyi Promise,expressed joy over the tournament, appreciating the organisers, especially Dr Chinedu Egbulefu for his show of love for his community.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of trophy and #1.5million to the winner of the competition(Aba South),while #1million was given to the first runner up(Obingwa) and #500,000 was presented to the second runner up (Aba North) and Ugwunnagbo went home with #200,000 as the third runner up.
