Isiguzo Re-emerges NUJ National President

Comrade Chris Ikechukwu Isiguzo has re emerged as the duly elected National Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, after pulling a total of 665 votes to beat his rival Yusuf Idris who polled a total of 15 Votes.

 

Although Isiguzo’s rival had officially withdrew from the race but his late withdrawal in the contest for the position of National President did not deter the Union in conducting a transparent and peaceful election.

 

Isiguzo had faced series of court litigations before the election day,an attempt aimed at truncating the conduct of the election from Idris who not only opposed the second term bid of the incumbent, but had also declared Umuahia, the Abia State capital, venue of  the 7th Triennial Delegates Conference as unsafe.

 

Speaking after being, sworn in, National President of the NUJ,Chris Isiguzo, on behalf of the newly elected National officials thanked  God for a successful election.

 

Isiguzo expressed gratitude to Journalists for renewing his mandate and finding them worthy to serve the union.

 

He stated that although the job is highly demanding, they would work to justify the confidence reposed in them by journalists adding that they will not disappoint.

 

The NUJ National President asssured that the newly elected executives of the union will take the union to greater heights and therefore called for total support of all Journalists to achieve maximum service delivery.

 

According to Isiguzo, the next three years of leadership will witness more developments and achievements for the union.

 

“This is just the beginning, we are aiming for greater heights. We are going to be more dedicated, more committed to serve you better”, he assured.

 

Chairman of the 7th Triennial National Delegates Conference,Mallam  Garuba in his speech thanked all journalists for their cooperation which cumulated in a hitch free exercise devoid of rancour and congratulated all elected officials of the NUJ, expressing hope that they will serve the union better.

 

The occasion also featured the administeration of the oath of office and oath of alligence on other National Executives of the union.
