GOVERNOR IKPEAZU ASSURES 2019 BATCH A CORPS MEMBERS OF GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

The Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has reiterated its government’s commitment to assist the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, scheme to achieve its objective,as well as ensuring the needs of corp members is addressed in the state.

Dr. Ikpeazu who stated this during the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch A Orientation Course at Umunna,Bende Local Government Area, commended the corps members for their cooperation with the camp officials in ensuring a successful and hitch free orientation.

Governor Ikpeazu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu,expressed optimism that NYSC scheme has impacted positively on the socio-economic development of the nation, especially the rural communities through various community development projects embarked upon by their predecessors.

He challenged them to complement the efforts of the government and fit into at least one of them through Primary Assignment and community development services, adding that the government will continue to give the youth the deserved opportunity to express themselves and contribute to the development of the state and nation at large.

Governor Ikpeazu tasked them to shun truancy and other forms of anti-social behavior such as cultism and drug abuse.

Earlier in her welcome address, the state coordinator,National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), Abia state , Mrs Francesca Ifon,appealed to corps members to exhibit leadership traits acquired during the orientation course.

She warned that any act of absenteeism and indiscipline would attract appropriate sanction stipulated in the NYSC bye laws.

Mrs Ifon urged them to uphold the lofty objectives of the Nysc and be good ambassadors of their alma-mater and their various states.

The Abia state Nysc coordinator advised them to identify , execute and complete tangible projects in the state.
