In fulfillment of their admission requirement, 4781 newly admitted students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike(MOUAU), have sworn to obey and observe all rules and regulations made for the good order and governance of the university.
At the 31st Matriculation ceremony held at the school’s pavilion, the newly admitted students took their Matriculation oath, promising not to be involved in any form of examination malpractices or any act of violence aimed at disrupting the functions of the university.
They pledged to be of good conduct, upholding the principles of excellence and service for which the university is known for, affirming that the school should disqualify them from taking a degree of the university when caught in any anti-social or criminal acts, such as felony, rape, arson or being involved in a secret society.
The students promised not to possess lethal weapons like gun, axe, knife or inflict bodily harm to another student in any manner, stating that throughout their stay in the university they would be diligent in the pursuit of their course of study, declaring to obey and respect the vice chancellor of the university,as well as, other officers of the institution.
In his remark to the students, the vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, congratulated the students for making it to their Matriculation ceremony, which he stated marks a significant milestone in their lives.
The Vice Chancellor hinted the students that their Matriculation signals the formal admission/reception into the institution, and they were expected to participate fully by swearing to the Oath of the admission and signing the Matriculation Register before they would be regarded as bona-fide students of the institution and then entitled to all rights and privileges appertaining to them.
Prof Iwe noted that though the rights and privileges of a student could be withdrawn, if the conduct of the student is found to be unethical and inimical
to the well-being of the institution, reminding them that they are embarking on a transformative journey that would not only shape their intellectual capacities but also mould their character and prepare them for the challenges and
opportunities that lie ahead.
He said the institution had witnessed
countless success stories of those who had passed through its hallowed halls
and auditoria, urging the new students to become an integral part of the sterling legacies.
Giving a brief history of the institution, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, informed the students that the institution came into existence precisely on the 2nd day of November 1992, with Prof Placid Njoku, emerging as the first Vice Chancellor on 27th May,1993.
He said the school is driven with the mission of training students
who are not only professionally competent but also confident and equipped with practical skills, imploring them to live up to the expectation of the creed, while they enjoy their stay on campus.
“As you therefore step into this academic
environment, be ready to embrace diversity, engage in critical thinking and
foster a spirit of collaboration. Our university is not just about acquiring
knowledge,it is about honing the skills and values that will make you
responsible citizens and contributors to the development of our society.

He further urged the new intake to consolidate on the outstanding performances of individuals who have walked the halls of the institution before them, because they left indelible marks with their individual triumphs.

bring you here, let your predecessors who recorded stellar achievements
during their stay on this campus be your source of motivation.Do not be content with mediocrity. Strive for greatness.
