We’re Working Towards Ending Education Tourism Abroad- Topfaith Varsity VC

The Vice Chancellor, Topfaith University, Mkpatak in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Prof Patrick Ebeowo has announced that the world class facilities and programmes of the institution were such that would curb the drive for education tourism to foreign countries.

In an interaction with journalists over the weekend at the institution’s conference hall, the Vice Chancellor noted that apart from the infrastructural and technological capacity of the institution which have become the first point of attraction; the quality of the academic manpower of the University meets the international standards.

He explained that Topfaith University places premium on moral standard of its students hence its determination to turn out graduates who would be found worthy in both learning and character.

Ebeowo disclosed that the University started with 177 students from JAMB but now has increased to over 500 undergraduates offering different courses in five Faculties and 24 Department of studies .

His words,”This is a little bit different, that is why I am here. On Sundays, we have a programme for all students. We call it Leadership and Moral Education to make them think of what to do when they graduate to contribute to the growth of our society.

“It is not just an institution where we give certificates to students after four to five years of course work.

“We prioritize character very much. We are looking to see what we can do to add to our society. We have commenced the task of ending education tourism abroad. Our first graduation should be coming up next year.”

Earlier, the Board Chairman, Dr Emmanuel Abraham said that curriculum of the institution is predicated on skill acquisition, entrepreneurship and sound moral values laced in academics preparing students to compete with their counterparts anywhere in the world.

Abraham while conducting Journalists round the facilities in the university campus disclosed that the institution remains his personal vision to establish a university that will prepare graduate differently to meet with emerging trends in education worldwide .

Facilities in the institution include standard Library in a serene environment, Law Faculty, well equipped civil , mechanical , electrical mechatronics engineering workshops; computing science; Mass Communication Studios, Science Laboratories among others

Other Skill development centers include standard carpentry workshops, Bakery, Electrical shops where undergraduates are trained on wiring and electrical installations.

He explained that the entrepreneurial skills impacted on undergraduates of the institution is different from the one obtained in other public universities with emphasis on the mind set and ability to detect business opportunities by students.

” Our university is unique in this aspect . Again ,we pay much attention to moral values to avoid educating nuisance to the society,” he said.
