Ukwa-East Council Boss, Akara, Lauds Akwete Fabrics Weaving Initiative

The Executive Chairman, Ukwa-East Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Chibunna Akara has lauded the Akwete fabrics weaving initiative, pledging his government support to the traditional craft.

The Executive Chairman who disclosed this recently when he received in audience the Management of Akwete fabrics weaving initiative in his office in Akwete, Ukwa-East LGA, thanked them for their unwavering dedication to preserve the age-long culture.

Hon. Chibunna called on Ndoki people and Abians as well, to promote this cultural heritage of Ndoki people, maintaining that it also contributes to the economic empowerment of women and youths in the area, Abia state and Nigeria at large.

Earlier in her remark, the Administrator of Akwete Fabrics Acquisition Centre, Mrs Ezinne Akparanta congratulated Hon. Akara for his victory as the Executive Chairman of Ukwa-East, pledging their unalloyed support.

She revealed that they came to familiarize with the Council boss and to seek areas of collaborations, especially in the training and retraining of some unemployed youths in the traditional Akwete weaving craft.

She described Akwete fabrics as unique and iconic textile, calling on the Council boss, well-meaning Ndoki people, Abians and Nigerians at large to help in preserving this trans-generational trade.

The Vice Chairman of the Council, Dr. Thelma A. Inglis-Ekeke and other top council officials were present at the visit.
