Obio/Akpor Council Chairman Decries Building Collapse In Rivers Community

The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo has decried Iriebe building collapse, sealing the site for safety measures.

The Council boss who disclosed this during his visit to the site today, called for caution, expressing delight that there was no casualty.

In his words: “The collapse is quite unfortunate and as a local government, we have closed down this site with immediate effect and instructed the owner of the building to furnish us with the necessary building approval from the ministry of Urban development. For now, we cannot ascertain if someone is under the rubble.”

Preliminary findings indicate that the collapse occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, October 29th, while construction was on the third floor.

Amb Ihunwo urged the owner of the property to report to his office on Wednesday alongside his site engineer for further investigation.

Ihunwo further indicated plans to work with the Rivers State Ministry of Urban Development to ascertain if the ministry actually approved the building plan.
