Nigeria has congratulated Senegal’s President, on his election as the new Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, reaffirming its commitment to working closely with the new leadership to advance regional integration, peace, security and economic development across West Africa.

The Federal Government described President Faye’s emergence as Chairman of the regional bloc as timely, expressing confidence that his leadership would strengthen unity and promote sustainable development at a period when the sub-region faces evolving security and economic challenges.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria applauded the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for conducting a seamless leadership transition, describing the process as a demonstration of the organisation’s enduring commitment to democratic governance, regional solidarity and collective progress.
The government noted that President Faye assumes office at a pivotal moment, with ECOWAS expected to intensify efforts towards addressing insecurity, deepening economic integration, promoting good governance and enhancing the welfare of citizens across member states.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s longstanding commitment as a founding member of ECOWAS, the government pledged its full support for the new Chairman and expressed readiness to collaborate with Senegal and other member states in strengthening regional institutions, expanding intra-African trade, and fostering lasting peace and stability in West Africa.
Nigeria also congratulated Senegal on the appointment of as the new President of the ECOWAS Commission, expressing optimism that the new leadership team would further advance the vision and objectives of the regional organisation.
