NAWOJ Demands Justice For Woman Stripped, Paraded Naked For Allegedly Stealing Snails

ENUGU–Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Enugu state has noted with dismay ill treatment given to a woman in Mmaku Community in Awgu Local Government Area for allegedly picking snails from a sacred forest.

It therefore demands that perpetrators of such inhuman act should be apprehended and made to face the law.

The widow was reported to have been stripped naked and paraded round the community by some youths.

The state chairperson NAWOJ, Comrade Ngozi Ngene, while reacting to the incident, said it is unacceptable and must be condemned and justice given to the woman.

She called on relevant authorities to apprehend the culprits, and ensure decisive action to make the society safe for women not just to live in, but to live well.

According to her, “this is no longer the time for complacency or delays, our society expects effective measures to prevent and stop violence against women for the current generation, injury to one is an injury to all,  there can never be justification against violence of any kind”.
