International Women’s Day: Mrs. Otti call on governments, organisations to invest in women

Abia women today join their counterparts all over the world to mark the 2024 International Women’s day celebration.

The wife of Abia State Governor Mrs. Presilla Otti who led the celebration at the International Conference Center in Umuahia, called on Governments at all level, Public and Private Institutions, and Community organizations to invest in women in order to accelerate progress in the society.

The Governor’s wife also urged all Abians to rededicate themselves to the cause of gender equality with renewed hope, determination and vigor.

Speaking on the theme ‘Inspire Inclusion’ with it’s slogan, invest in women: accelerate progress, Mrs. Otti, advocated that investing in women remains the catalyst for societal advancement and fostering of economic growth in the society.

She call on the state house of assembly to continue to foster laws that would protect the women and the girl child, channelling resources into education, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities for women, would empower them to contribute fully to the communities.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Mrs. Blessing Felix, expressed that the ministry in collaboration with the office of the wife of the Governor would continue to empower women and young girls through skills and vocational training programs to reach their potentials in the society.

She lamented that the male folks are dominating every sector of the nation’s economy which slows down women to contribute their quota to the socioeconomic development of the country.

Cultural display 

Highpoint of the event features lecture series, cultural display and good will messages from Reverend Chioma Ibezim, Dr. Chizoba Achor and others.

However, some of the women who spoke to National Ambassador Newspaper, Mrs. Nkechi Chukwuemeka and Mrs. Uwaoma Okafor, expressed their joy to be part of the women day celebration and called for concerted efforts by all to ensure that women’s right are adequately protected by giving equal opportunities to both the male and female counterparts

Meanwhile 8th of March annually is celebrated globally as International Women’s Day to highlight the importance of Women and their contribution to Nations building, it is also marked to encourage the women to enable them achieve their goals in life irrespective of the situation
