I want to be remembered for peace- UniUyo VC’s wife

The wife of the Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and president, University of Uyo Women Association, Mrs Rosaline Essien has said she would love to be remembered for her peaceful disposition.

This came following a question on what she would be remembered for after her exit as the president of the association.

Mrs Essien, disclosed this on Friday during a solemn assembly with the theme, ‘The Lord has done great things” held at the university’s town campus which was part of the weeklong activities marking the end of her five year tenure in office.

Mrs Essien who admonished the women to stay united and resolve their differences through dialogue and mediation promised to intervene and lend necessary supports when needed at any time.

She however thanked the women, the Vice Chancellor, Management of the institution and the Students for their support during her stay in office and urged them to give same to her successor.

She also called on the incoming president to always carry the women along in all her dealings in the association as well as show total transparency as they were key to effective leadership.

According to her, “I am a peace ambassador and I believe in peace sustenance. If you have any issue, please resolve it through mediation, its going to be a win win affair unlike when you take the matter to the court of law.

“When you need my advise, feel free to let me know for I will always give my support at any time. I will not fail to thank these great women for standing by me all these years. To my husband, management and the students, I say thank you.

“Even if I’m leaving as the president of UWA, I’m not going to leave you, I will still monitor to ensure that all we have put in place are still working.”

Enumerating some of her achievements, Mrs Essien said her administration has been able to teach the women about leadership, empower them with various skills and long term investment, established creche, Canteen, fitness exercise and led an advocacy against rape and gender based violence in the State .

In his remarks, the vice chancellor of the University, Prof. Enefiok Essien(SAN) represented by the University Librarian, Dr. Ahioma Ibegwam commended the outgoing president for all her achievements in office and urged members of UWA to support the incoming president as they did to his wife.

He also reminded the students and the lecturers that UniUyo is a brand and every one should ensure that the brand is upheld.

“The VC appreciates the wife, children and the institution for their support. You should not forget that UniUyo is a brand that should be maintained at all times. As we are leaving, don’t compare the former with the later as different people carry different level of grace.” Prof. Essien said.

The highpoints of the event were intensive prayers for students and the staff of the institution, sermon and choir rendition.
