Delta Government Approves N275bn for 76 Infrastructure and Development Projects

The Delta State Government has approved over N275 billion for 76 key projects across the state’s three senatorial districts. This approval was granted during the first Executive Council (EXCO) meeting of 2025, chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the Government House in Asaba.

Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, briefed the press following the meeting, highlighting the historic nature of the approval. He stated, “Not long ago, we informed you that Governor Oborevwori is not interested in joining issues with critics but will be responding to them with projects. But little did we know that his response is going to be so outstanding and deafening that even those who have some audio challenge will hear the sound”

“Today, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led us to make history since the 34 years existence of Delta State where, in one Exco meeting over N275 billion worth of projects were approved for the good people of Delta cutting across the three senatorial districts. These projects span different sectors targeted at giving value to our people; improving connectivity by way of roads, advancing their health by way of efforts in the health sector and, of course, urban renewal by making our cities much more liveable”.

He also emphasized that, “virtually all the projects we approved today are coming with 40 per cent mobilisation without our government having to go and borrow, and that tells you how solvent we are as a state, thanks to the very accountable and transparent governance philosophy of Governor Oborevwori”.

Among the approved projects are the construction of roads such as the Uruagbesa Oria-Abraka Road, the Egodo-Ogbeinbene Road, and the Amai-Aragba Road, as well as the development of key health facilities, including the establishment of a Specialist Hospital at Osubi and rehabilitation work at various medical centers. The Warri City Stadium is also set to be remodeled as part of the state’s commitment to legacy projects.

Governor Oborevwori’s team, including the Commissioners for Works, Economic Planning, and Health, commended the decision to ensure these projects are funded with 40% mobilization upfront, signaling financial stability in the state.

Additionally, the government approved various appointments, including the presentation of the staff of office to Obi Chukwunonso Justin Nwoko as the Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko Kingdom.

Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the Commissioner for Health, mentioned that EXCO had approved N1.6 billion for the state’s Contributory Health Scheme and N100 million in monthly funding for its sustainability, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to enhancing healthcare in Delta.
