Cross River adopts more Measures in Combating Crime

In a bid to intensify ways in combating crime in the State, Cross River State has adopted various procedures to help fish out the criminals that have been terrorizing the State .

Aside from the Security Agencies that have been working gallantly in combating the increased crimes in the State, the State Governor Senator Bassey Otu imposed curfew on places especially Communities with high increase rate of crime as well as promised monetary reward to anybody or group of people that can aide in the arrest of these hoodlums.

In addition, the State through the ministry of transportation has introduce a process of issuing Security numbers to operators of commercial vehicles , ranging from Buses, Tricycles, and Heavy Duty Truck operators.

The Commissioner for transport in the State, Pastor Ekpeyong Cobham while addressing the transporters in the State revealed the process which he said is ongoing and it is expected that before March 31st which is the closing time for the process, all the commercial vehicle operators in the State should have the security numbers or face sanction.

The Commissioner warned against operating with fake numbers, and those that will want to go against the order as the State will not fail to hand them over to the Security Agencies for prosecution.

As a matter of urgency, following the high increase of crime in the State, Pastor Cobham said it has become necessary to introduce security numbers to the transporters giving instance of a person that used tricycle for a robbery, but no one could track him because he operated with fake security number.

He said his ministry will reconcile exiting numbers to determine those that are fake and the genuine ones, using a document that will aide the process when a number is keyed to the website it will reveal the true identity of the owner which will help track the vehicle and the driver.
