Community Lauds Foundation Over N47.2M Road Project in Akwa Ibom

Ikot Inyang community in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has on Wednesday lauded Mercy-Me Heart Foundation for coming to their rescue in constructing a 5 kilometres road project estimated at N47.2Million.

Iko Inyang, which is one of the remote communities in Akwa Ibom had been cut off from other communities in the past due to the collapsed road network.

Residents at different times have expressed difficulty and suffering in the community as a result of the road saying that it was difficult for them to move to and from the area.

However, the Managing Director of the heart foundation, Edidiong Udoidiong who facilitated the road construction said he was moved to embark on the project after experiencing the suffering of his people during his mother’s burial

He explained that the Foundation decided to construct the road project to ameliorate years of frustrations and sufferings by the community due to poor road network linking it and other communities

Represented at the occasion by the site Engineer, Xavier Edidiong, the MD urged prominent members of the community not to rely solely on government for the provision of social amenities saying that they can join hands to promote grassroots development.

Edidiong said “The 5 kilometres worth over 47.2 million naira has paved way for a free flow of movement to and from the community as well create employment in the area for the local dwellers

Also, the foundation commenced the construction of a classroom block for the community’s government primary school to address shortage of infrastructure in the school.

Responding, the village head of Ikot Inyang village, Udoakpan Udoekong in his remarks, described the gesture as worthy of emulation, saying it’s worthwhile for people to “give back to the society which had made them.”

The head of the school, Benedict Akpan, who spoke on behalf of the teaching staff also expressed appreciation to Mercy-Me Heart Foundation for coming back to fulfill it’s promise to the school and community and prayed that God should give the foundation the grace and strength to see to the successful completion of the project.
