CIPMN Honours Chinweuju Obi for Healthcare Project Delivery

The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) has conferred its Honorary Fellowship on healthcare project management professional, Chinweuju Obi, in recognition of her contributions to infrastructure development, technology integration and project delivery in Nigeria’s public healthcare sector.

The fellowship was awarded on December 13, 2023, in acknowledgement of Obi’s professional experience in applying project management principles to complex institutional projects, particularly in the healthcare sector.

Obi previously served at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, where she handled infrastructure and capital projects and led the institution’s Enterprise Portfolio Management Office. Her responsibilities included overseeing projects involving technical operations, infrastructure, information technology and institutional planning.

Speaking on the recognition, CIPMN Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer, Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe, said the fellowship reflected Obi’s ability to combine technical expertise with organisational priorities and effective project governance.

Mbadiwe noted that project management plays an increasingly important role in ensuring that complex initiatives are delivered through proper planning, accountability, risk management and stakeholder collaboration.

He added that Obi’s professional responsibilities involved coordinating technical teams, procurement officers, contractors, information technology specialists and healthcare administrators to facilitate the implementation of projects with significant operational implications.

Trained as a computer engineer, Obi later transitioned into project leadership, combining her technical background with expertise in infrastructure development, technology deployment and organisational management.

Her career has also involved strengthening project oversight mechanisms, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and supporting the execution of institutional development objectives.

In her response, Obi emphasised the importance of teamwork and coordination in achieving successful healthcare project outcomes.

She said healthcare projects required effective collaboration between technical professionals and the people who ultimately depended on the facilities and systems being delivered.

“Project success is achieved when stakeholders understand their responsibilities, manage dependencies effectively, and work toward a common objective,” she said.

Obi described the fellowship as a recognition of the collective efforts of the professionals, administrators, technical specialists and project teams with whom she had worked throughout her career.

CIPMN said its Honorary Fellowship recognises individuals whose professional achievements have contributed to the advancement of project management and related disciplines.
