Governor Otti's Rapid Infrastructural Development of Aba and Its Suburbs in the Past 19 Months

Otti To Flag Off 250-Room Enyimba International Hotel Reconstruction, Targets 5,500 Jobs

 

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti will on February 25th formally flag off the reconstruction of the Enyimba International Hotel, Aba as part of the State’s industrial transformation agenda, with a focus on revitalising the hospitality sector.

 

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this weeks Executive Council Meeting presided over by the Governor.

Prince Kanu said the Abia State Government, represented by Enyimba International Hotel Limited, had about a year ago signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Radisson Blu Group, an international hospitality brand, which will manage the facility upon completion.

 

According to the Commissioner, the hotel, which will be retrofitted and renovated to Five-Star standards, will have 250 rooms upon full completion, beginning initially with 155 rooms before scaling up.

 

The Commissioner disclosed that the fully operational Enyimba International Hotel is projected to generate 5,500 direct and indirect jobs and significantly boost the State’s Internally Generated Revenue.

It is worthy to note that when fully operational, the facility will provide about 5,500 direct and indirect jobs. 

 

“The Abia State Government aims to boost its Internally Generated Revenue from the Five-Star hotel facility. 

 

“The hotel project will help the State Government to drive its economic growth, boost Internally Generated Revenue and provide the State with a robust presence in the Nigerian hospitality industry”, he said.

 

Prince Kanu disclosed that the State Ministry of Works is currently undertaking direct labour projects at 14 locations across the state with four road projects already completed.

 

The Commissioner listed the projects completed to include the maintenance of the 14.8-kilometre Alayi–Ugwueke Road in Bende Local Government Area, construction of the 1.1-kilometre Awomukwu–Umusokoro Road in Ikwuano LGA, the 900-metre Umusokoro–Umugwo Road, also in Ikwuano LGA and the 9.1-kilometre Umunkpeyi–Umuru–Okpokiri Road in Isialangwa South LGA.

 

Prince Kanu said that new direct labour works have commenced on the 280-metre St Patrick’s School Crescent, Agbama, Umuahia South LGA; the 1.43-kilometre access road into Umuobia Housing Estate, Umuahia South LGA and maintenance of failed portions of the 5.2-kilometre road leading to Ugwunagbo Local Government Area Secretariat.

He added that the State currently has 31 ongoing contract projects and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work.
